As a Performer

Margaret Barbour

As a violinist, Margaret has been praised for her classical technique and uniquely warm tone. In her early years she studied with Sheri Neubauer, concertmaster of the Bartlesville Symphony Orchestra, and Rossitza Goza, concertmaster of the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra. In 2019 she was a finalist in the Bartlesville Young Artists Concerto Competition, as well as a selected participant for a masterclass with world famous violinst Rachel Barton Pine. In 2020 she was the winner of the Tulsa Youth Symphony Concerto Competition. 

In recent years, Margaret has leaned more toward jazz and contemporary repertoire, mimicking the evolution of her compositional style. She has studied under renowned jazz violinists Sara Caswell, Mimi Rabson, and Jason Annick. Most notably he has performed alongside Mia Asano, the 8 Bit Big Band, Grace Kelly, and Sissy Castrogiovanni. In 2023, Margaret was a featured soloist in Great American Songbook: Girl on Fire—The Music of Alicia Keys at MGM Music Hall as part of the inauguration of former Berklee President Erica Muhl. 

Based out of Brookline, MA, Margaret currently works as a freelance performer throughout the greater Boston and New England area, specializing in musical theatre. In just the past year she has acted as concertmaster for a number of productions, most recently Pippin and Anastasia at Boston University, and the final pilot production of How to Train Your Dragon Jr. for the Wellesley Theatre Project. She premiered several original productions, including Waiting for Tuesday at Boston Conservatory, and Autobiography of Red and Three Courses at Boston Center for the Arts. 

​In addition to musical theatre, Margaret is well versed in contemporary, classical, and religious repertoire. She has played for a number of choral performances, pops concerts, weddings, and events.

As a Writer

Margaret's first compositional recognition was at age 16, when her original string quartet earned awards from both the University of Tulsa and the Oklahoma Music Teachers Association. She is currently on scholarship pursuing a double degree in Performance and Contemporary Writing and Production from the esteemed Berklee College of Music, and is expected to graduate in December of 2024. She has received high praise from mentors and colleagues especially for her string and orchestral writing, but excels in a number of genres. In the spring of 2024, she received a departmental achievement award within the Contemporary Writing division upon nomination by her professors. She was also selected to arrange for two of the largest and most anticipated productions of the 2023-24 Berklee performance season.

Margaret has arranged for the Boston Conservatory Pops, the Berklee Broadway Band, and Sin and Tonic Productions, to name a few. In 2024/25 she acted as Music Supervisor for Boston Conservatory's Rooted in Unity Cabaret. She has collaborated with a number of talented rising songwriters and composers. She recently provided orchestrations for Autobiography of Red, an original musical which premiered at Boston Center for the Arts, as well as for Her Name is Barbra, a celebration of Barbra Streisand at the Green Room 42 in New York City.
